Incus Multicodec

Licence and notices

Licence

Incus Multicodec is free. Its own code is open source under the MIT licence, copyright 2026 Incus Technologies Limited, and the source is on GitHub. The installer shows the full terms of use, which you accept when you install it. The main points:

  • No warranty. The app is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, and you use it at your own risk. This doesn't affect rights you have as a consumer that can't be excluded.
  • It takes over the Bluetooth adapter you choose. It switches that adapter to Microsoft's WinUSB driver, so Windows can't use it until you give it back from the tray menu or uninstall the app. If it's your PC's built-in Bluetooth, Windows Bluetooth is off meanwhile.
  • Mice and keyboards keep one pairing. Pairing one with the app replaces its pairing with Windows, so pair it with Windows again after giving the adapter back.
  • Microsoft components. The WinUSB co-installers it includes are Microsoft's, used under Microsoft's redistribution terms: only as part of the app, only on Windows, and not to be reverse engineered except where the law allows.

Components from others

The app is built on open-source software. Every component and its licence is listed in the third-party notices, with the full licence texts in the licenses folder (also installed with the app). The main ones:

  • LDAC: Sony's encoder from the Android Open Source Project, Apache License 2.0.
  • aptX and aptX HD: Qualcomm's own encoders, as published in the Android Open Source Project, Apache License 2.0. aptX Low Latency isn't included.
  • SBC: the BlueZ SBC library, GNU LGPL 2.1. AAC: the encoder built into Windows.
  • Bluetooth stack: Google's Bumble, Apache License 2.0. USB: libusb, GNU LGPL 2.1.
  • Driver setup: libwdi, GNU LGPL 3.0, with Microsoft's WinUSB co-installers.
  • Firmware: Intel and Realtek Bluetooth firmware from linux-firmware, unmodified, redistributed under their vendors' licences.

The source code of the LGPL components, exactly as built and with our build scripts, is attached to every release on GitHub. You may replace those libraries with your own builds.
