Incus Multicodec
Privacy notice
Last updated 28 October 2026.
This notice covers the Incus Multicodec app and this website, software.incustech.app. They're provided by Incus Technologies Limited, a UK company, which is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact us about privacy at [email protected].
In short: the app keeps your settings, pairings and log on your PC. It contacts us only to check for updates, and when you send a bug report. This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts.
On your PC
Settings, Bluetooth pairing keys and the app's log are stored in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\windows-bluetooth-multicodec and never leave your PC unless you
choose to send the log with a bug report. Uninstalling leaves this folder in place so a
reinstall keeps your pairings; delete it to remove them.
Update checks
Unless you turn it off (tray menu, Updates, Check automatically), the app checks for a newer version about a minute after it starts and then twice a day, by fetching a small file from this site. That request reaches us with your IP address, the time and the app's version (in its user agent). We record it in our web server's log only (see "Website" below). When you install an update, the installer is downloaded from GitHub (see "Downloads").
Bug reports
Reports are sent only when you press Send report in the app or on our form. A report contains:
- what you type, and your email address if you give one (only so we can reply);
- from the app: its version, your Windows version, your Bluetooth adapters, the codec in use and the app's settings;
- from the app, if you leave the box ticked: the end of its log, which includes the names of your Bluetooth devices. Their Bluetooth addresses are masked before sending, apart from the last two bytes we need to tell devices apart. See what's sent shows you everything first.
We use reports only to find and fix problems, and email you only about your report. They're stored on our server, are seen only by the people who maintain the app, and are deleted after 12 months. We don't store your IP address with a report.
Website
Like any web server, ours logs each request: IP address, time, the page or file requested, the response, and your browser's user agent. We use these logs to keep the site running and secure, and to count how many times the app is downloaded and updated. They're deleted after 30 days, except that for downloads of the installer (including in-app updates) we keep the time, file, response and user agent, with the IP address removed, so the counts stay complete. Requests pass through Cloudflare, which protects and delivers the site and processes them under its own privacy policy.
Downloads
The installer and the source code are published on GitHub. When you download from there, GitHub processes your request under its privacy statement; we see only GitHub's total count for each file.
Why we can use this data
Our legal basis under the UK GDPR is our legitimate interest in providing, securing and improving free software and this site: delivering updates, keeping the service working, and fixing the problems people report. We don't sell personal data, use it for advertising or profiling, or share it with anyone apart from the providers named above.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, by emailing [email protected]. For a bug report, the report's reference (shown when you send it) or the email address you used helps us find it. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
